Copyright Issues

There is a wealth of digital media available online that has been created by people who are happy to share what they have made.  At the same time, it is unethical and illegal to use material if you do not have permission from the author to do so.

If you see this symbol , or if you see the words "All Rights Reserved", you may not use the material without the express permission of the author.

On the other hand, if you see this symbol , the work is licensed under the Creative Commons, and you may well be able to use the material.  There are, however, several conditions that apply.  These need to be respected.

Attribution. You let others copy, u distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request.

Noncommercial. You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work — and derivative works based upon itu  — but for noncommercial purposes only.

No Derivative Works. You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.

Share Alike. You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.
