Multimedia Presentation Options

Some Important Considerations

  • Sharing with a global audience multiplies motivation exponentially.

From Kindergarten through grade 12, almost everything that students do in school is for an audience of precisely one.

Learning activities are mostly done for the teacher and not owned by the learner.

When a learner is given opportunity to share work that is meaningful to him or her with a global audience, the learner is much more inclined to take ownership for the work and to care more about the quality.

So...the embed code matters!

This is one good reason for getting students to blog--as a vehicle for embedding and sharing their multimedia presentations.

For example: Kathy Cassidy's class blog, with individual blogs by her first graders.

A class wiki is another excellent vehicle for sharing work.  (Eg. My own digital stuff wiki.)

  • Quality multimedia presentations can enhance both the self esteem and status of learners who struggle to succeed with traditional academic tools--especially struggling writers and those who can't create pleasing art work with traditional media.

  • Learners are more likely to take ownership of their tools, and of their work, if they have a variety of tools to choose from.

Options Galore--Something Effective for Every Learner

  • Huge number and range of available options--growing rapidly
    • Simple slide shows without audio accompaniment or voice narration
    • Slide shows that facilitate inclusion of text
    • Slide shows that facilitate inclusion of text and audio

    • Single page "collage" options that allow for embedding of other media
    • All manner of video formats
    • Timelines
    • Comic/cartoon creators
    • Many many more....
